They call him Beast because he fights like one. Because he’s built like the tanks he rode in Afghanistan.
FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING & AWARD WINNING AUTHOR SELENA KITT
Beneath Conrad "Beast" Beeston III’s fierce, intense gaze, his brooding temperament, his knuckles scarred from fighting, lurks a wild man, his strong, broad back darkly inked with his own hard truths.
He only has one mode, and “Beast” is it. He ripped through Tilly's life, tearing it to shreds, and then he was gone, giving a stiff middle finger to a life of entitlement. He left her like he leaves them all—with little more than a broken heart. But for Tilly, there was one more thing.
He left her with an unbearable secret she’s been forced to keep for years.
Tilly’s privileged life, after her recent graduation from Mt. Holyoke, has come to a screeching halt under tragic circumstances. Had she really believed she’d never see her Devil Dog stepbrother again?
Now he’s coming home—and she’s forced to face his cocky smirk and arrogant swagger, to look once again into the eyes of the monster who left her.
Forced to confront him, what she sees is a raw, broken, tortured man who just might be the only person she knows keeping even bigger secrets than she is.
Worse, she still wants him. Even if it means breaking everything in her life wide open—even if it means unleashing the Beast.
NOTE This is a full-length novel, no cliffhangers
Step Beast A Stepbrother Romance edition by Selena Kitt Romance eBooks
I try not to read reviews of books that I receive for free. I want to read with an unbiased clean slate. This is how I decide on an author that I haven't read before. If I enjoy the book, I will purchase additional works. About one third into the book I finally starting reading reviews to help me decide if I was going to continue reading. Most said that it would get better somewhere around the two thirds point. It did, but not by much.I didn't like the way the main character, Tilly was written. I think her character could have been handled differently and this could have been a really good read.
She does everything that her mother tells her. Her mother buys her clothes, won't let her paint her room, and berates everything she does. She's twenty two years old with a business degree, no job, and still lives at home because that's what her mommy wants? She resents it and whines about it. So get a job and move out already.
She acted like a spoiled little girl when it came to Beast. She snatched his shopping bag from him, jumped into his car refusing to get out, and just plain pouted like a five year old.
I don't want to put too much out there to spoil it for anyone wanting to read it, but her mother takes her baby. As a very protective mother, I would do whatever it took to find out what happened to my child and then God help the woman, mother or not, when I did.
When her dying mother finally tells her the truth, she forgives her. Just forgives her. There are many things someone might do to me that would anger me, but I could forgive. Stealing my child isn't one of them. Even if I was told it was to "protect" me. After time maybe I could work my way to forgiveness, but not in two days.
I know that I haven't said much else about the book. Sorry, I just can't get past Tilly. Her character wasn't believable.

Step Beast A Stepbrother Romance edition by Selena Kitt Romance eBooks Reviews
4.5 Stars
I love stepbrother books…not sure why I do, but I do. I was really excited to read this one.
I was instantly drawn into the story. I loved the connection between Beast and Tilly. The book was going along just fine until the club was introduced. I’m not a huge fan of bdsm, so when that started to play a roll, I started checking out. It’s just not my thing and it lessened my enjoyment of the story. However, Tilly’s reactions to what she was seeing at The Bottom Floor were hilarious. I couldn’t stop reading. And I’m glad I didn’t because the book definitely became more that just BDSM. Yes, that played a part and they spent quite a bit of time there, so much so that during one scene in particular, I got a little bored with how long it went on, but I loved when they finally gave into their feelings and the story became more than just them hooking up at the club.
There were a couple of twists that were in the book and while I won’t say what those were, I will say that one I called (more because I’d hoped it to be true) and the other I did think of but discounted because I didn’t think it was likely. However, both twists were great. I loved them.
My least favorite part of the book was Tilly’s mom. I’m sorry that she was sick with Cancer and not doing well but for me, that didn’t excuse her treatment of Tilly. I felt like because she had cancer I was supposed to feel sympathy for her but with the way she treated Tilly, and the things she did to Tilly over the years, I didn’t. I just hated her.
Overall, I really did love this book. I especially loved that this was a full length novel and not a short thing that doesn’t have an end. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Huh…That’s what I said when I was done with this book. Not what I expected at all. This book far exceeded any expectations I had. I’m not in any way trying to disparage the author; this is the first of her books I have read. It’s just the title and some of the reviews really gave me pause. I got this book in January while it was a free e-book. I had told myself I really need to start reading more of my free books and this one was recommended by an acquaintance. I was leery. I mean really, Step Beast? And the blurb about the book didn’t really help its cause. But again, it was free and recommended so I gave it a go.
There was a certain element of predictability to the story, and honestly the first third was a bit rough. But once it found its groove it was a good story. To be perfectly frank, I thought it would be a bunch of sex with a barely there plot. In actuality there was a good plot going on and I got sucked into the story. Beast aka Connor is a good guy even if he’s rough around the edges. So much of this story would have never happened if the man knew how to talk to people instead of ordering them around. I have a lot of military in my family and circle of friends and I know plenty who are a bit like this…not able to separate their civilian life and friends from the military life they lead. They come across the same way as Beast.
Some of the reviewers of this book were very critical of Tilly and her immaturity. I think that’s the point. She’s a rich girl who is not stuck up and not totally clueless about the real world, but was still raised in a manner that kept her sheltered. She grew up under her mother’s thumb always feeling she was not good enough. In fact, during a very climactic scene toward the end I forgave her judgement and stupidity about Beast ONLY because of the way her family has always seemed to cast her aside her whole life. That baggage can really weigh someone down and cause them to think irrationally in stressful situations. On the other hand, just before she made that snap judgement she made a really bad decision that was beyond stupid and seemed to come out of a bad horror movie. Up until that point I had looked at Tilly as naïve and innocent, not stupid. I was disappointed with the author at that point because I felt it was such an expected trope.
I was really glad the author didn’t have Tilly and Beast reminiscing about their childhood through the whole book. It helped their situation seem a bit less taboo. In fact, since they didn’t because steps Beast was a teen and he left for many years while Tilly grew up, I didn’t find it taboo at all. Tilly’s initial visit to the club where Beast worked was the biggest taboo in my mind. There is some BDSM in the book. In fact a good part of the story centers on the BDSM club, but it’s more of a plot point than anything else.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one and it has certainly piqued my interest in looking into other books by Selena Kitt.
