Before the bestselling Sabel Security series featuring Jacob Stearne and Mercury, Pia Sabel took over the company and ran into trouble. Sabel Origins #2, Bring It, chronicles that time Jacob, still on his meds, was tasked with saving the boss.

When Pia Sabel is abducted after trying to bust a ring of deviant criminals, it’s up to veteran agent Jacob Stearne to navigate the dark web of deceit and lies to save her from her torturous captors.

Pia Sabel expected a little recognition after she liberated a pedophile resort in Sri Lanka, not a State Department inquisition. Forced to play the deadliest game of her life, she finds molested children used in a new version of “enhanced interrogation tactics”. Putting herself in danger to save the innocent, her overconfidence leads to agonizing torment.

Sabel Agent Jacob Stearne and his team of decorated veterans have lived through warzone horrors but nothing could have prepared them for the ugly reality they uncover. Fending off accusations of treason and terrorism, Jacob unravels a network of ambitious appointees and black-budget contractors to discover who is responsible for some of the most horrific crimes against humanity.

Interview with Seeley James from DigiWriting.com

DW Do readers really compare Pia and Jacob to other literary heroes and heroines?

SJ I’ve heard Pia Sabel compared to Jack Reacher many times because she’s a straight-forward, no-nonsense heroine who beats the crap out of people. Recently, I’ve heard Jacob Stearne in the same breath as Stephanie Plum because of his whacky lifestyle and romantic problems. It’s appropriate because he’s our comic-relief character.

DW What is your favorite book of all time? How has it influenced you and your writing?

I don’t have just one. One Shot by Lee Child, because it has such an intricate set of clues, ranks right up there with First Drop by Zoe Sharp, because she nailed the teenagers with incredible insight and humor.

DW Did you always want to be a writer or did you fall into the profession?

I was nineteen and single when I adopted a three-year-old girl and raised her (More about that on my site, http//seeleyjames.com/about/ ). Kids need a lot of money and attention, so I worked in the upwardly mobile tech industry. Later in life, my career afforded me the ability to take a huge risk.

DW Which authors have had a profound impact on your writing?

SJ Gillian Flynn because she thinks way outside the Agatha Christie formula. Janet Evanovich because her books are just plain fun. J. D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) has some phenomenal writing techniques. Daniel Silva, Harlan Coben, Russell Blake, John Sandford, James Rollins, A. G. Riddle, Lance Charnes, the list just goes on and on…

I enjoyed this thriller for its well-paced plot, vivid description, and believable characters.

The action starts right away. Since part of the story has happened before the book begins, the beginning could have been confusing, but the author weaves enough background into the narrative so you understand what's going on. The plot twists are unexpected. Characters are sometimes not what they seem to be.

The description of places is deftly done without slowing down the story. And the story covers a lot of ground, from an isolated island to Washington DC, from the Azores to a town in Romania. The description of the action is riveting. It pulls you through the story pretty much nonstop. And it's credible. (The scene where Pia is water boarded is so credible it's scary.) The heroes have skills, but they don't perform superhuman feats. And they can be wounded like actual human beings.

None of the characters are the kind of ciphers you sometimes find in thrillers. I won't forget Pia, Jacob, or Tania anytime soon. And I definitely want to read more about them.

Bring It Sabel Origins Book 2 edition by Seeley James Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read the first Sabel novel and was amused, but really wasn't motivated to read any more of the series. Seeley James got WAAAAAY better on the second edition of the series. Enough where I actually care enough about these characters to await the 3rd installment. A short shift was given to a couple of the minor characters i had loved in the #1 - but honestly the book moved quickly enough that any additional subplots might have slowed the whole thing down.
Having read the Geneva Decision, I was really looking forward to book 2 - Bring It. And I must say Seeley did not disappoint. Pia Sabel is truly a real flesh and blood character. Shes got heart and definitely has her own sense of right and wrong. The bad guys dont stand a chance. I am not big on spoilers and really hate reviews which give a way to much. This one has got a real bad guy and goes far deeper. Pia and the President of the free world are no friends. Do yourself a favor - give the Sabel Security Thrillers a chance/.
This is an excellent story told from multiple angles, rather than the straight first person of The Geneva Decision. It is clear that James' writing has improved from even that great book, though I do wish it had more of the fun/ rare quirkiness from Pia in this book. Here, she seems to have taken the world on her shoulders, and it shows. Solid mystery that will keep you guessing (and the ending will blow you away), with enough action to be right up the alley of any thriller purist.
Bring It is the second book in the Sabel Security team. This time Pia is hunting for a group who are filming pedophile terrorists and then blackmailing them. Pia is out to save the children and doesn't really care who gets in the way.

This shadowy group is actually connected to the U.S. government. How far reaching into the hierarchy of the government does this despicable act go? As far as the president? The goal.... kill Pia and her team.

Pia and her team are pretty beaten up by the time the case is broken. Pia has lost a boyfriend. Is there a possible future with her and Jacob.

The characters and plot are extremely well developed. There is an amazing intensity in this book that keeps you reading.
First thing; I liked this book! That said, it was a stretch to think that a world cup soccer player would have the "secret agent"/combatant type skills that the author attributes to Pia, and he does this throughout the book. That said I enjoyed the character development of all the major characters, I'm a character reader, I get into what makes them tick, who and what they are. Pia's soccer background has all but disappeared in this book as James focuses on the main story line; governmental conspiracy. Having laid the background for further books with back story about Pia's parents in his first book, this book makes you question if that issue has been resolved? Oops, no spoilers here, read the book, enjoy the book as I have, I'll be reading more by Seeley James.
If you're looking for a book with a lot of action, gunfights, fisticuffs, and just about everything in between except for sex, this is the book for you. The violence is graphic, the main characters well developed, there's just too many of them. I realize 'Sabel Security' is a large agency, but do we really need to know everyone that works for them? If you can keep track of all the players in this story, it's a very enjoyable read. If not, you might be a bit disappointed. And don't even try to keep up with the patriarch's mood changes. He flips from happy to angry and back faster than you can read the sentence. All in all though, there was more right with this story than there was wrong.
Not my normal kind of book, but I was looking for something different to read. Different is understatement. Yes there was a lot of action. Some reviewers think a lot of it was highly improbable. I am thinking it could be happening, all of it, all around us and we would never know because some hidden or not so hidden government agency could "classify" it or "investigate it" all away. I enjoy the driven main character Pia Sabel's moral compass. That she has her own private security company to back her up is a bonus! I did not find the alternation of Pia's adventures in third person and Agent Jacobs first person confusing or offputting at all. If anything, it provided perfect counterpoint of his somewhat ambiguous personal morality, yet highly developed sense of right and wrong to Pia's straight down the road, nothing gets in the way, the only thing that matters is saving the children. The "plot" starts out with Pia just trying to find some kids that have been kidnapped by a slave trafficking ring. She is being pursued by the US and Sri Lankan governments for the murder of the man in charge, a Sri Lankan colonel. All of a sudden she is in the middle of a twisted, plot by who knows how many agencies and departments of the government, possibly including the White House and everyone seems to be trying to kill her. Can't explain it, you have to read it--she is one kick-ass heroine! (And the book's grammar and spelling is great too!)
I enjoyed this thriller for its well-paced plot, vivid description, and believable characters.
